The answer may disappoint you because it's like asking, "How much does it cost to buy a car?"
The true answer is: "It depends."
A car can be anything from a used Holden to a new luxury Mercedes with all the bells and whistles. Homes are similar and unfortunately, the costs catch many clients off guard.
Costs vary from builder to builder but the real fluctuations in pricing depend on a few things:
1. Location
2. Finishings
3. Materials
4. Custom or volume build plan
5. Size
One thing you may want to consider is to make sure you are realistic about what you want to include and be flexible and open to cost-saving options. A savvy builder will know how to reengineer or replace materials to give you the same look and feel you desire at a lesser cost.
And one important thing to remember is if you're building a custom home, don't base your cost per square meter on volume builder rates. Having a custom builder is a different ballgame. You'll get better build quality, attention to detail, and supervision.
