This is our first owner-built property that we pulled out of the 1950’s with our bare hands.

 

Living in the home, and building over two phases, we learned about form, functionality and comfort. The perfect guniea-pigs through the project, we were able to learn about what works in a family home and how details make all the difference.

 

We ended up building a dream home- at least it was our dream at the time.

 

Maxa Design took on the architecture, ensuring the blend of two styles happened seamlessly. Original brick home and industrial extension meet at a generous light-well/ stair atrium, making for a grand entrance when you walk through the custom-made recycled timber front door. 

 

The finishes are executed flawlessly in this commercially built, domestic home. Raw materials are celebrated, burnished concrete floors, thermomass concrete panels, spotted gum accents, American oak treads, steel staircase and balustrades. The balance and blend of materials creates a cozy and livable atmosphere.

 

Selling this home is bittersweet but we look forward to future endeavours.
